Lightning - Final Snapper Ride
Mick Fanning’s
surfboard rests satisfied. Disappointed, yes, yet content.
It had done its job, it had carried its champion faithfully
& well on Mick’s final ride on the Gold Coast as a full-time
surfer on the Championship Tour.
Mick had given his surfboard away to
a young fan who’d simply asked for an autograph at the end
of his last round. I arranged this photo with the boy’s
father after the surfing had concluded for the day, after
most people had gone home - a photo no one else took nor will
be able to now - at least not of this special board
on this special day. 2018 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.

Adriano De Souza (2015
WSL World Champion) enjoying some airtime at the 2018
Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.
This time last year Adriano posted one of my photos on
Instagram. Out of the 10000s of photos taken by 100s of
photographers he only posted 1 photo taken during
competition. Mine. So as a bit of a tribute I’ve done this.
It’s one of the photos I took of him competing this year
with the colour removed, a hint of colour added along with
the writing from his jersey. Hope you like it.
